On January 1, Ohio raised its minimum wage to $11 per hour for non-tipped workers and $5.50 per hour for tipped employees. This adjustment follows a constitutional amendment approved by Ohio voters in 2006, which mandates annual increases to the state’s minimum wage based on changes in the Consumer Price Index.

The Ohio General Assembly is scheduled to return to session on January 28. Democratic lawmakers in both chambers have introduced bills proposing an increase of the minimum wage to $15 per hour. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) stated it will monitor these legislative efforts and provide updates to small business owners regarding any developments related to minimum wage laws.

Additional information about the recent increase can be found at the Ohio Department of Commerce website.
