The Ohio Senate has passed Senate Bill 9, a measure aimed at aligning the state’s tax code with recent federal tax provisions. The bill includes an emergency clause intended to provide clarity for small business owners as they prepare for the upcoming tax season.

Jared Weiser, State Director of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), praised lawmakers for their efforts. “Small business owners have routinely ranked taxes as a top concern on both the federal and state levels, and SB 9 will provide clarity for owners as it aligns Ohio’s tax code with the federal tax provisions included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” said Weiser. “Ohio’s small businesses depend on a predictable tax structure for their success, and by including the emergency clause in SB 9, it will allow small employers to properly file for tax year 2025. We thank the Legislature for their commitment to Ohio’s small business community and encourage Governor DeWine to quickly sign SB 9 into law.”

The NFIB also released information highlighting that making the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent is expected to boost Ohio’s GDP by $2.2 billion annually over the next decade.
