Veterans in Ohio will have the opportunity to use public shooting ranges free of charge on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife announced that the usual requirement for a shooting range permit will be waived for veterans at all Division of Wildlife Class A, B, and C shooting ranges on that day.

The initiative is intended as a gesture of appreciation for veterans’ service. According to ODNR, their public shooting ranges are designed to offer safe environments for practicing with rifles, shotguns, handguns, and archery equipment. Information about specific range facilities and available amenities can be found at wildohio.gov.

Class A ranges provide supervised rifle and pistol target shooting. Class B facilities allow unsupervised rifle and pistol target practice, while Class C ranges are designated for unsupervised clay target shotgun shooting.

Normally, anyone aged 18 or older must purchase a permit to use these facilities. Permits can be bought at hunting and fishing license outlets, through the Ohio Wildlife Licensing System, or via the HuntFish OH mobile app. Daily permits cost $5 and annual permits are priced at $24.

The Division of Wildlife stated in its release: “The Division of Wildlife is providing a free range day as a thank-you to veterans for their service.”
