The Ohio State Highway Patrol has announced that Olga Gomez received a 360-day jail sentence for vehicular manslaughter and driving without a license, following the death of Ronald Jordan Imhoff in Butler County.

According to the patrol, the case originated from a crash on June 17, 2024, on Ohio State Route 63. Gomez was found responsible for causing the death of 60-year-old motorcyclist Ronald Jordan Imhoff while operating her vehicle without a valid driver’s license. The court imposed the maximum jail term for vehicular manslaughter and an additional charge for driving without a license. Her driving privileges have been suspended for two years. Court records indicate that Gomez intends to appeal and is currently held under an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer pending further immigration proceedings.

The Ohio Department of Public Safety reported 1,140 fatal traffic crashes in 2024, with motorcyclists involved in 206 incidents. Unlicensed or suspended drivers accounted for nearly 13% of all fatal crashes statewide. Data highlights that motorcycle-related deaths disproportionately contribute to roadway fatalities, often due to driver inattention and unsafe maneuvers.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) figures from 2023 reveal that motorcyclists represented 14% of all U.S. traffic fatalities despite comprising only 3% of registered vehicles. Studies also indicate that unlicensed drivers are four times more likely to be involved in fatal crashes. The NHTSA has stressed the importance of enforcement measures against unlicensed and impaired driving to reduce preventable deaths.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, established in 1933 and based in Columbus, operates as a statewide law enforcement agency under the Ohio Department of Public Safety. It is tasked with enforcing traffic laws, investigating crashes, and promoting roadway safety across Ohio’s highways while assisting local and federal authorities in criminal interdiction, traffic enforcement, and emergency response operations.
