The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cristian Nunez-Guzman, a 35-year-old Mexican national previously deported in 2012, on charges of rape and gross sexual imposition after 2 minors reported inappropriate sexual contact, and he is held on a $350,000 bond with an ICE detainer.

According to WLWT, the arrest occurred after Cincinnati Children’s Hospital notified authorities of a juvenile disclosing inappropriate sexual contact. Investigators discovered another minor had reported similar incidents involving the same individual, leading to his indictment on the charges. Authorities confirmed that Nunez-Guzman, who was deported in 2012 following a narcotics conviction in Georgia, faces up to 21.5 years in prison if convicted and will be deported again after the resolution of these charges.

The Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence highlights that annually over 30,000 children in Ohio are involved in substantiated cases of child abuse or neglect, with approximately 5,000 related specifically to sexual abuse. It is noted that only 38 percent of child victims disclose the abuse, suggesting many more cases remain unreported. State data indicates that most reported sexual assaults occur to children under 18 and are often perpetrated by individuals known to the victims.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that at least one in four girls and one in twenty boys in the United States experience child sexual abuse. Approximately 90 percent of such abuse is committed by individuals known and trusted by the child or family. In 2015, the economic burden of child sexual abuse nationwide was estimated at $9.3 billion.
