The Marietta College men’s and women’s track and field team competed in the first of two days competition at the Amy Adams Memorial Invitational Friday (March 24) afternoon at Muskingum University.
The men’s and women’s hammer and javelin throws were contested on Friday. The remainder of the events will be held on Saturday.
Marietta currently sits in third place in both the men’s and women’s team standings. Walsh leads the men with 33 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan (26 points), Marietta (8), Otterbein (4), Muskingum (3), John Carroll (3) and Baldwin Wallace (1).
Jake Priest (Frazeysburg, Ohio/Tri-Valley) had the highlight of the day for the Pioneers setting a new Marietta College record in the hammer throw. Priest launched a throw of 54.74 meters (179’7″) to place second in the event. His mark eclipsed the old Marietta record of 52.36 meters (171’9″) set by Brian Pallini in 2009.
On the women’s side, Ohio Wesleyan sits in first place with 26 points, followed by Baldwin Wallace (13 points), Marietta (12), Otterbein (9), Walsh (6), Muskingum (6), John Carroll (5), and Cuyahoga CC (1).
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and Savannah Flusche (Blacklick, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) both set new personal records in the women’s hammer throw. Huffman placed second with a mark of 49.66 meters (162’11”), while Flusche finished eighth with a distance of 38.79 meters (127’3″).
In the women’s javelin throw, Elizabeth Schnegg (Clarington, Ohio/St. John Central) placed sixth with a throw of 24.22 meters (79’5″).
Marietta completes the Amy Adams Invitational on Saturday (March 25). Events start at 11:00 a.m.
