Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) met with leaders in Ohio’s aviation industry in Columbus and toured a specialized foster care facility in Mt. Vernon on Apr. 8.
The visit highlighted the importance of both the aviation sector and support for foster children in Ohio. Husted said, “It’s always inspiring to be in Ohio with the people who make our state strong. From aviation innovators to organizations supporting foster children, Ohio continues to lead by example.”
During his time in Columbus, Husted joined the Ohio Aviation Association for a fireside chat focused on various issues facing aviation across the state. He noted that general aviation supports more than $11.7 billion in total output statewide and emphasized Ohio’s ongoing role as an industry leader: “Ohio is the birthplace of aviation. From Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to NASA Glenn and the 104 public-use airports around the state, Ohio is still the place where the aviation industry takes flight.”
Husted also discussed his support for recent legislation, including backing for air traffic control modernization through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act passed last July.
In Mt. Vernon, Husted visited The Village Network, a nonprofit organization offering trauma-informed treatment and specialized foster care services to youth and families. Reflecting on his own experience as an adoptee, he said, “I spent the first two months of my life in foster care before being adopted by my parents, and I want every child to have what I was given—a safe and loving home. The work being done at The Village Network is making a real difference for Ohio’s foster children, and it was inspiring to see it firsthand.”
Husted has held several leadership roles including Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, secretary of state, lieutenant governor prior to joining the U.S. Senate according to his official website. He currently serves on Senate committees focused on health, education, labor and pensions; small business; environment; public works; and aging according to his official website. His background includes earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from University of Dayton according to his official website, leading legislative efforts such as tax reductions and educational choice scholarships according to his official website, defending voter roll integrity before the Supreme Court according to his official website, raising three children with his wife Tina while living in Columbus according to his official website, as well as achievements as an All-American defensive back helping lead University of Dayton Flyers football team according to his official website.
Looking ahead, Husted continues working on policy areas affecting families across Ohio through committee assignments at federal level.
