Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal on Apr. 13, describing former President Donald Trump’s influence on the Republican Party and his focus on American workers.
Moreno wrote that the party has returned to its roots by prioritizing American manufacturing, supporting domestic workers, and promoting an America First agenda. He said these changes are essential for ensuring that economic policies benefit all Americans.
“The Republican Party for decades stood for three core principles: lower taxes, fewer regulations and fiscal discipline, all aimed at shrinking the size and scope of government. These remain worthy objectives and will always be part of our party platform. But something was missing. The party had lost sight of the American worker. We had forgotten that our economic policies must not only reward success but also ensure that no one is left behind in pursuing it,” Moreno wrote.
He continued: “President Donald J. Trump changed that. He didn’t abandon the traditional Republican agenda; he expanded and completed it… In doing so, he saved the Republican Party from irrelevance and gave it a new, populist soul.” Moreno credited Trump with shifting policy toward defending American labor through measures such as tariffs to support U.S.-based industries.
Moreno highlighted Trump’s foreign policy approach as focused on strengthening national defense while putting domestic needs first: “His foreign policy isn’t isolationist… No more endless wars, no more nation-building abroad while our own communities crumble.” He contrasted this vision with what he described as a shift in Democratic priorities.
In addition to his political views, Moreno provides newsletter subscriptions to maintain connections with Ohio residents according to his official website. He immigrated from Colombia at age five with his family and became a U.S. citizen at eighteen according to his official website. Moreno serves on Senate committees related to banking, housing, urban affairs, commerce, science, transportation, homeland security, governmental affairs and budget issues according to his official website.
He also promotes blockchain technology initiatives and consults experts about autonomous vehicle safety standards according to his official website. His offices are located in Washington D.C., Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati for constituent services according to his official website.
U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno serves on several Senate committees including banking and homeland security while advocating for equitable lending policies and innovation in transportation technologies; he previously built one of America’s leading car dealership groups focused on job creation in Ohio according to his official website.
Concluding his op-ed piece about recent changes within the GOP under Trump’s leadership Moreno wrote: “The Republican Party is stronger… because Mr. Trump reminded us what the GOP was always supposed to be about: America, its workers and the dream that still defines us.”
