Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) has requested that his salary be withheld during the ongoing partial government shutdown, which has now entered its eleventh day. In a letter to the Financial Clerk of the Senate, Husted explained his decision in light of federal employees who are facing missed paychecks.

“The House passed a bipartisan funding bill, and I hoped Senate Democrats would act just as quickly. Now, with the shutdown in its 11th day, I cannot in good conscience accept a paycheck while TSA officers, FEMA personnel and Coast Guard members are about to miss theirs. I will withhold my salary until a bill is passed to reopen the government,” said Husted.

The senator’s action comes as many federal workers, including those at agencies such as TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard, are expected to go without pay until Congress passes legislation to fund government operations.
