Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio praised Federal Reserve Chair nominee Kevin Warsh for his qualifications and cited previous statements of support from Senate Democrats, according to an April 21 announcement.
The remarks came during a hearing in Washington, where Moreno highlighted the bipartisan history surrounding Warsh’s nomination. The topic is significant as it underscores ongoing debates over leadership at the Federal Reserve and questions about consistency in political endorsements.
Moreno quoted Senator Chuck Schumer, saying, “‘Mr. Chairman, it is clear that Mr. Warsh is tremendously accomplished. He is committed to strong capital standards, effective supervision, and meaningful market discipline. He knows unequivocally that the Fed must be independent, nonideological, and nonpartisan, and for this reason, I am proud to support his nomination.’ I wish I had said those words, but those are the words of Senator Chuck Schumer when he voted to confirm you, in fact introduced you…It looks like Democrats used to love you at one point,” said Moreno.
Moreno maintains connections with Ohio residents through newsletter subscriptions according to the official website. He immigrated from Colombia at age five with his family and became a U.S. citizen at eighteen according to the official website. Moreno serves on several Senate committees related to banking, housing, commerce, science, transportation, homeland security and budget issues according to the official website.
In addition to his legislative work on financial matters such as blockchain technology and autonomous vehicle safety practices according to the official website, Moreno maintains offices in Washington D.C., Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati for constituent services according to the official website.
The confirmation process for Federal Reserve leadership continues as senators weigh both current qualifications and prior endorsements.
