Jordan says Democrats are using double standards

U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has slammed Democrats over their double standards, reminding them about the efforts to undermine the 2016 election.

Speaking at the House debate, Jordan noted that the same Democrats who undermined the 2016 elections were the ones calling for Trump's impeachment.

“Guess who the first objector was on January 6, 2017? The first objector was the Democratic chairman of the Rules Committee (Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.)). They can object to Alabama in 2017 but tell us we can’t object to Pennsylvania in 2021,” Jordan said.

“They tell us we’re trying to overturn the election? Guess who the second objector was in 2017? The individual managing the impeachment for the Democrats,” Jordan said, referring to Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland).

Jordan also aired his sentiments about the impeachment on Twitter :

“They spied on President Trump’s campaign in 2016. They put him through the phony Russia hoax from 2017-2019. They investigated his family and friends. They impeached him once. And today, they’re trying to do it again. Despite all that, he never stopped working for you,” he posted.

Thousands of supporters last Wednesday stormed the Capitol to interrupt a vote certifying Joe Biden as the winner. President Trump is blamed for inciting the insurrection, hence his impeachment.

Questions have arisen whether or not Trump would be allowed to run again in 2024 if he was removed from office.

WUSA reports that if Trump was removed by the 25th Amendment, he could run again because that does not disqualify him from running again.

However, if he is removed via an impeachment conviction, the answer gets a little more murky. Congress has the authority to disqualify someone from running for future office.

In the past, there have been times that Congress has decided not to disqualify someone from holding office, so Trump’s ability to run in 2024 depends on if Congress decides to disqualify him or not.
