Is someone in your household a veteran? Help is available

5

Lorain City Schools works with the Lorain County Veterans Service Commission to connect our veteran families to available resources.

This work, part of the district’s Wraparound Services Department, aims to ensure that all Lorain City Schools veteran families know and utilize available funding programs.

“It is important that our veteran families know what is out there, what they have earned, and how they can receive assistance,” said Dr. Stephen Sturgill, Executive Director of Wraparound Services. “All too often, veterans don’t know what is available to them in their local community. That is why we ask our families to let us know if they are a veteran family.

"We ask this when families register students in our district and throughout the year. Right now, the Lorain County Veterans Service Commission has money for families in need. It can be money for clothes. It can be money for food. It can be financial assistance.”

Families can contact the Lorain County Veterans Service Commission directly at (440) 284-4625 or reach out to the Wraparound Services Department for more information on this and other support programs available in Lorain County.

“There are more programs out there than people know. Let us help,” Sturgill said.
