In an impassioned speech on the House floor, Ryan raises awareness of the fentanyl epidemic devastating communities in Ohio and across the country and calls for accountability

Washington, DC — Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13), Co-Chair of the Congressional Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery Caucus, delivered a House floor speech to raise awareness of the worsening fentanyl epidemic in the United States. According to data analysis by local group Families Against Fentanyl, fentanyl overdoses surged to the leading cause of death for adults between the ages of 18 and 45.

“We need to start having a conversation in this country knowing that China understands whatthey are doing by sending fentanyl to Mexico that makes its way into the United States,” Congressman Tim Ryan said. “They need to be punished. They're killing our kids. We can't just stand around and hope this problem goes away because it will not—it will only get worse, and there will be more destruction, more hopelessness, more ruined lives.”

“I have met families in every corner of Ohio who have been devastated by fentanyl in one way or another,” Ryan continued. “While I acknowledge the progress the Biden Administration has made in apprehending these drugs at the border, we need to go a hell of a lot further to address this worsening crisis so that no more families will ever have to experience the heartache of losing their loved one to fentanyl.
