The Mathews Local School District is excited to announce that George Garrett has been named principal of Mathews Junior Senior High School. On January 5, 2022, the Mathews Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Garrett as the building’s administrator. Garrett will officially begin his role as principal on Monday, January 24, 2022.
Garrett graduated from Youngstown State University with bachelor’s degree in Integrated Language Arts Education and a master’s degree in Educational Administration. He furthered his education at Kent State University, earning an Endorsement in Computer Technology.
For the last 17 years, Garrett has been employed by the Mathews Local School District where he has worked as an English teacher and principal at both Mathews Junior Senior High School and the former Neal Middle School building. Throughout his time in the district, Garrett has also served as an advisor of the Drama Club, Student Council and Robotics, as well as a coach for eSports, Football and Track and Field. Prior to joining the Mustang family, Garrett worked at Life Skills of Trumbull County, Life Skills of Youngstown, and Troutman Middle School just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina.
“I am looking forward to working with our students and staff to ensure the students will receive the best educational experience possible,” said Garrett.
In addition to the principal position, Garrett will continue to serve as the Robotics/Engineering advisor and will finish the year coaching the junior high track and field team.
