U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) – senior member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, & Forestry– released the following statement after the Biden Administration announced the appointment of Jonathan McCracken to serve as Ohio’s State Director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Rural Development. McCracken held various roles in Senator Brown’s legislative office as Legislative Assistant for 15 years, covering Agriculture; Animal Welfare; Appropriations (Agriculture, Environment, Interior, Transportation, Water); Climate Change; Energy; Environment; Hunger; Infrastructure; Nutrition; and Renewable Energy before making the move to USDA:
“This is an excellent choice by President Biden. I’ve worked with Jonathan McCracken for well over a decade. He has a deep connection to our rural communities, and has been an instrumental leader in our work to bring together and work with community leaders, economic development officials, and government agencies and to lift up the voices of Ohio farmers. He’s led dozens of roundtables with Ohio’s farming communities, and helped us pass Farm Bills that invest in these places that are too often overlooked,” said Brown. “As State Director of Rural Development, Mr. McCracken will continue working to ensure that Ohio’s rural communities have the resources necessary to maintain vibrant farming and agricultural economies.”
