Kaptur Hosts Forum to Plan for Jobs & Infrastructure Bill Funding

Marcy

Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement after hosting a virtual forum with stakeholders from across Northwest and Northeast Ohio to discuss the impact of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. In November, Rep. Kaptur joined her Democratic colleagues to pass the bill in the House, while 94 percent of House Republicans voted against the bill’s investments in jobs and infrastructure.

Today, Rep. Kaptur and leaders from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency, and the BlueGreen Alliance met with more than 70 regional stakeholders to provide updates on the nearly $14 billion in funding Ohio will receive from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and advise on how the region can effectively access resources for local priorities. Participants included representatives from local governments, economic development organizations, transit agencies, labor unions, businesses, and more.

“The Jobs and Infrastructure bill offers a once in a generation opportunity for our region to invest in the future – and we cannot pass it up,” said Rep. Kaptur. “Billions of dollars are coming down the pike to rebuild roads, railways, and ports, and expand weatherization programs and renewable energy projects. Wealthy coastal communities have their own special interests that advocate for their needs. Our region must raise its collective voice to secure the resources we need right here at home. By planning and strategizing together, the vision we all share for the Great Lakes region can finally be realized.”

Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funding for Ohio includes:

  • $1 billion for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative
  • $9.2 billion for highways
  • $483 million for bridges
  • $1.2 billion for public transportation
  • $140 million for electric vehicle chargers
  • $100 million for high-speed broadband internet
  • $1.4 billion for clean drinking water infrastructure
  • $253 million for airports
