Today, state Senator Sandra R. Williams announced that she will host her 16th annual Utility Assistance Expo on Saturday, February 5 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to assist those who need help paying utility bills apply for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) or Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus program (PIPP).
“When I started the utility assistance expo over 16 years ago, it was to address Cleveland and Cuyahoga County residents’ need for help with lowering high utility bills,” Williams said. “Since then, the expo has helped thousands of people lower their utility bills and enroll in HEAP and PIPP. This year, I have partnered with four different agencies ¬– Cleveland Public Power, Cleveland Water Department, Step Forward and the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District – to bring much-needed assistance to Clevelanders.”
Since space is limited, attendees must call 614-466-4857 to make an appointment prior to the event. No walk-ins will be permitted. Appointment scheduling for the expo will close at 4 p.m. on Friday February 4.
In order to apply, attendees must bring a photocopy of the following documents (original documents, including mailed bills, will not be accepted):
• Proof of gross household income
• State ID for all household members
• Supplemental medical insurance card for all household members
• Social Security card for all household members
• Electric bill
• Gas bill
• Water and sewer bills, if applicable
• Completed HEAP or PIPP application (Click here for the HEAP application, and click here for the PIPP application.)
Strict Covid-19 safety procedures will be followed at the expo. In order to limit crowds, attendance is limited to only one person per household, and children are not permitted. All attendees will be required to wear masks.
