Board of Education update on masking requirements

2

During its February 8 meeting, the Board of Education had a lengthy discussion on the topic of masking, leading to two outcomes.

First, the masking requirement in school buildings during evening and weekend events has expired.  Currently masking is required indoors during the school day for students in preschool through 12th grade, staff and visitors.  Masking is also required during the School-Age Child Care program (SACC).

The second outcome from the Board’s discussion was a vote to end the mask requirement at midnight on Sunday, February 27.  When students and staff members come to school on Monday, February 28, masks will be optional for students, staff members and visitors in all grade levels, preK through 12th grade, and in district facilities.

As a reminder, a federal masking requirement remains in place for all public transportation, including school buses, through March 18, 2022.

Due to the change in district masking requirements, Upper Arlington Schools will allow families to consider transferring into or out of the Online Academy.  Details on that timeline will be shared later this week.
