One School, One Book Kicks Off at McKinley

2

McKinley students enjoyed the start of the One School, One Book program this week, starting with kick-off assemblies revealing the book chosen: A Boy Called Bat. Students were

greeted that morning with Mr. Hawes dressed in a skunk costume, and the fun continued all week!

Each day there has been a trivia question with prizes for each grade level, and they named their roving skunks Bob and Oreo. Students can listen to special guest readers on the special Bitmoji page reading chapters of the book, and families are encouraged to reach chapters at home with their student. There will also be an opportunity to enter an art

contest by drawing a picture of a skunk.

This exciting month long of activities will end with a fun family literacy night on March 1 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

The program was made possible by a grant from the Xenia Community Schools Foundation written by 5th grade teachers Denise Garrett and Amberly Winegar.
