Marietta College issued the following announcement on Feb. 21

Daniel Dougherty ’23 (Hilliard, Ohio) was recently honored by the Appalachian Basin American Association Drilling Engineers (AADE) with the John Applegath Scholarship, which is valued at $7,500.

“I am grateful to everyone with AADE who determined I was worthy of this scholarship,” Dougherty said. “I must also thank the amazing faculty members in the Petroleum Engineering Department, and Sue Hiser (Administrative Coordinator) who emails us continuously with opportunities to apply for internships and scholarships.”

Dougherty, who is a defender on the men’s soccer team, is also active in the community. Through the McDonough Leadership Program and Next-Gen, Dougherty has served as a board member of the local Red Cross.

He interned with Columbia Gas of Ohio in 2021 and Dougherty said that has strengthened his passion to work in the oil and gas industry, especially in the Appalachian Basin.

“I am excited about my future, and there have been many people at Marietta College who have helped me along the way,” Dougherty said.
