Kaptur Secures $14M in Federal Funding for Nine Community-Led Projects

Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement after securing more than $14 million in funding within the federal government’s Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations bill for nine local projects across Ohio’s 9th Congressional District. The bill passed the House and Senate this week, and President Biden is expected to sign it into law soon.

“Federal investments play a critical role in uplifting our people and unlocking our region’s full potential,” said Rep. Kaptur. “From significant new resources for education and mental healthcare, to next generation renewable energy and environmental stewardship programs – we are delivering for our needs. The millions of dollars coming home will support good-paying jobs, revitalize neighborhoods, and drive our progress forward.”

Projects and funding

  1. Glann School/Common Space Community Center Revitalization Initiative
  • $1.25 million – Toledo, OH
  • Funding will be used by Toledo Public Schools to renovate and conduct energy upgrades at the Glann School/Common Space Community Center facility and community hub which hosts international, faith-based, and support-oriented community groups that provide arts and creative programming to local children and adults.
  1. Historic South Neighborhood Solar Energy Field and SeaGate Food Bank Solar Roofing
  • $2 million – Toledo, OH
  • Funding will be used by the Historic South Initiative to develop a U.S.-made solar panel field that will generate renewable energy and support neighborhood redevelopment in one of Toledo’s lowest-income neighborhoods. Additionally, the SeaGate Food Bank will implement a solar demonstration project to increase energy efficiency and lower the organization’s utility costs.
  1. Ohio Theatre Restoration
  • $2.5 million – Toledo, OH
  • Funding will be used by the Ohio Theatre and the Children’s Theatre Workshop of Toledo to address facility damages, improve creative programming, and beautify a cultural touchstone on Lagrange Street.
  1. NW Ohio Mental Health Rehabilitation Center
  • $2 million – Toledo, OH
  • Funding will be used by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Ohio Chapter to establish a mental health rehabilitation center able to provide care for up to 24 adult patients who have been discharged from a psychiatric hospital and need additional treatment under a supervised living arrangement.
  1. University of Toledo Medical Center Mobile Medical Unit
  • $500,000 – Toledo, OH
  • Funding will be used by the University of Toledo Medical Center to acquire a new mobile medical unit to deliver a variety of healthcare services in underserved communities.
  1. Mental Health and Behavioral Health Transitional Support Housing
  • $2 million – Sandusky, OH
  • Funding will be used by the Erie County Health Department/Erie County Community Health Center to create a new facility and acquire equipment to provide short-term housing to individuals needing behavioral and mental healthcare services, as well as assistance connecting with job, education, housing, and transportation programming.
  1. Toledo Technology Academy Auto Mechanic and Electric Vehicle Training, Curriculum, and Teacher Development
  • $1.25 million – Toledo, OH
  • Funding will be used by Toledo Public School’s Technology Academy to establish an electric vehicle training program to provide students and workers the skills and knowledge for high-wage careers in a growing career field.
  1. Lucas County Sheriff Jail Planning and Design
  • $2 million – Toledo, OH
  • Funding will be used by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office to design a new correction facility that includes a mental health treatment wing.
  1. City of Lorain Environmental Infrastructure
  • $3.375 million – Lorain, OH
  • Funding will be used by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to increase pump station capacity and remodel a retention basin that will eliminate sanitary sewage overflows into residential homes.
