Over 350 children from Richland County recently gathered for United Way of Richland County’s event, Big Red Bookshelf. Mansfield City Schools students and staff served as volunteers.
Holly Christie, Director of Student Support Programs and a member of the Big Red Bookshelf Committee was pleased to see so many engaged students volunteer their time. The event was hosted on Presidents Day.
“The volunteers were so helpful and the committee was so appreciative of the time they gave on their day off,” she said.
MCS students helped pass out pizza, chips and water. Later in the afternoon, children participated in a read-aloud and the volunteers made sure copies of the book were visible for children to see and follow along.
Student volunteers, pictured from left to right, were: Jazmine Bentley, Zakhiyah Black, Lily Kime, Ali Stecker, Rheanna Witte, Gabrielle Johnson, Ellie Snyder, Carman Taylor, Beonca Sweet, Chelsea Dees and Hannah Nolen.
