Ohio gubernatorial candidate Jim Renacci and his running mate for lieutenant governor, Joe Knopp, have strong records of supporting pro-life issues.
Renacci and Knopp recently won the endorsement of the Warren County Right to Life in a bid to unseat incumbent Gov. Mike DeWine.
"Jim Renacci has a stellar pro-life record and Joe Knopp is a hero to pro-life Ohioans," Warren County Right to Life said in a statement. "Renacci co-sponsored the federal Heartbeat Bill when he was in Congress, and Joe Knopp produced the film 'Unplanned,' which has changed many hearts and minds to a pro-life viewpoint.
"Incumbent Mike DeWine twice appointed pro-abortion liberals to head Ohio's Health Department -- an agency that oversees abortion clinics. And DeWine allowed abortion clinics to remain open as essential businesses, while stores and even churches were closed due to his COVID policies."
When he served as a congressman, Renacci co-sponsored the federal Heartbeat Protection Act, which would have prohibited doctors from performing abortions after determining that the baby had a heartbeat, according to TrackBill. The legislation has so far failed to advance beyond the House.
The film Unplanned follows the true story of Abby Johnson, a woman who worked as a Planned Parenthood clinic director. When Johnson took part in an actual abortion procedure for the first time, she quit her job and joined the pro-life movement.
Renacci has previously stated that if elected, he will appoint an Unborn Child Advocate, according to the Cincy Reporter. He noted that the advocate would be a "high priority position."
"I have a record on Life, my faith leads me, and I will be a governor that champions for the unborn from the moment of conception," Renacci said. "I am honored by the support of the Warren County Right to Life."
Right to Life is an organization dedicated to defending the lives of the unborn through education and legislation. There are more than 3,000 local chapters, in addition to 50 statewide affiliates and the national federation.
