Kathryn Whittington, Ashtabula County Board of Commissioner, has been selected by the Region 13 OneOhio Governance Board to serve as the representative to the State Of Ohio, OneOhio Recovery Foundation.
“Commissioner Whittington’s experience and expertise in the opiate addiction epidemic, with her desire to enhance prevention, treatment and recovery services, make her the perfect fit for the OneOhio Recovery Foundation,” Portage County Commissioner Sabrina Christian Bennett stated.
The OneOhio Recovery Foundation is the mechanism established to disburse settlement proceeds from opioid litigation into Ohio’s communities to help abate the opioid crisis. The State is divided into 19 regions. Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake and Portage Counties make up Region 13, whose purpose is to have input and equitable representation regarding regional decisions.
"I look forward to working with Commissioner Kathryn Whittington as our representative on the One Ohio board. With her depth and breadth of knowledge surrounding the opioid crisis, stemming from decades of first-hand experience, I know Commissioner Whittington will work tirelessly for the people of the 13th region and the state as a whole,” said Lake County Commissioner John Hamercheck.
Geauga County Commissioner James Dvorak added, “Kathryn is the right person for this appointment.”
Representation at the state level is a serious commitment and responsibility. In accepting this position, Kathryn will be participating in statewide meetings to help distribute opioid settlement proceeds that can be used to address prevention, treatment, recovery, public awareness, criminal justice and other crucial services.
The State of Ohio will provide notification of meetings once each region has been established.
“I am thankful to have been selected to represent Region 13 at the State level. In accepting this position, I, with other Foundation members, will be focusing on community projects that will help fight and abate the drug epidemic,” said Commissioner Whittington.
