Today, Representative Shontel M. Brown (OH-11) released the following statement after the United States Senate voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court:
“As a Black Woman and as a proud American, it is hard to describe what a truly historic day this is for our great nation. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has shattered one of the last remaining glass ceilings by becoming the first Black woman confirmed to the Supreme Court. From her seat on the highest court in the land, Justice Jackson will inspire the next generation of Black women and girls to redefine what is possible.
“Over the last few weeks, the country bore witness to just how qualified and prepared Justice Jackson is for this day. From her time spent on the Court of Appeals to her service as a public defender, Justice Jackson brings a broad range of experience to the Supreme Court that cannot be matched. Her lived experience, unquestionable credentials, and lifelong commitment to justice will serve the American people well on the bench for years to come. President Biden could not have made a better selection, and I commend him for fulfilling his promise to ensure the Supreme Court better represents the backgrounds and experiences of all our people.
“Today, we are making American history. It is a chapter that will be written by a Supreme Court that more closely looks and thinks like the rest of our nation.”
