Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) announced Kent State University will receive $400,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop campus cyberinfrastructure, supporting future scientific research and innovation at the university.
This grant will fund a project to build computer networks that will support all Kent State Regional Campuses and will provide research technology to all faculty researchers in Northeast Ohio colleges and their collaborators.
“The development of these computing systems at Kent State is going to support a variety of research areas within the university system, solidifying Northeast Ohio as an area of innovation and development,” said Congressman Ryan. “I will always support federal investments that help our communities continue to lead using cutting-edge research and technologies.”
The project will creatively use recent advances in federated science networking to develop several new computer workflows that will allow for collaborative, mass-data research by university faculty. The project start date is May 8, 2022 and is planned to continue into April 2024.
The NSF supports research, innovation, and discovery that provides the foundation for economic growth in this country. By advancing the frontiers of science and engineering, our nation can develop the knowledge and cutting-edge technologies needed to address the challenges we face today and will face in the future.
