Two parishioners of St. Gertrude Church near Cincinnati are voicing their support for J.D. Vance, a conservative candidate in Ohio's Republican U.S. Senate primary. Vance has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, as well as Ohio Right to Life.

"I was fortunate to get to know J.D. before his campaign kicked into full swing," parishioner Michael Momper said. "He talked at length about his belief in the dignity of all human beings. (From conception to natural death, regardless of race, sex, religion, disability status or 'lot in life'). He continues to be refreshingly unapologetic about his conservative values."

Vance's "'behind closed doors/in private company' values" match his political positions, Momper said.

"That consistency is exactly what America needs in these troubling times," he said. "I fully expected Ohio Right to Life to endorse him and they did not disappoint."

Donna Stines, another parishioner of St. Gertrude, said, "I am happy to see that Ohio Right to Life endorsed J.D. Vance. It is more important than ever that we have politicians who will fight for the right to life."

Trump recently endorsed Vance, writing in a statement on his website: "MAGA patriots from across the nation are set to deliver an election landslide for Republicans that will serve as a devastating rebuke of the failures of Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats. In the Great State of Ohio, the candidate most qualified and ready to win in November is J.D. Vance. He is our best chance for victory in what could be a very tough race."

After its endorsement of Vance, Ohio Right to Life board chairman Marshal Pitchford told The Intelligencer, “J.D. Vance is 100% pro-life and we are confident that he will not only advance the cause of life, but defend the unborn from Planned Parenthood and their allies in our nation’s capital."

Vance, a venture capitalist and author of "Hillbilly Elegy," will face multiple GOP challengers in the May 3 primary election.

Right to Life is an organization dedicated to defending the lives of the unborn through education and legislation, its website says. There are more than 3,000 local RTL chapters in addition to 50 statewide affiliates and the national federation.

St. Gertrude is a Catholic church in Cincinnati dedicated to helping parishioners encounter Jesus Christ, its website says.
