Curious about Centerville Schools’ new mobile learning station?

Come explore this classroom on wheels and participate in other activities during the district’s Summer Learning Kickoff from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3 at the Stubbs Park Amphitheater, 255 W. Spring Valley Pike.

The district has been exploring the possibility of creating a mobile classroom after seeing them in use in other districts, according to Cherie Colopy, Centerville’s Director of Elementary Curriculum.

Last November, the project finally came to life after representatives from Fuyao Glass America donated $32,500 for Centerville Schools to buy a 20-foot trailer. Since then, the district’s Curriculum team has been outfitting the “Elks Express” mobile learning station with Chromebook laptops, WiFi hotspots, books, math games and other educational tools.

“We are excited for the capability to share educational opportunities beyond school walls,” Colopy said. “The Elks Express can be taken into our students’ neighborhoods to provide more learning activities, help with parent-teacher conferences, assist families in completing school related forms, and much more.”

Megan LeMaster, the district’s English Learner Coach who is helping to coordinate the kickoff event on May 3, said she is eager to show off the mobile learning station to district staff and the community.

“At the Summer Learning Kickoff, everyone will have the chance to peek inside the Elks Express and start dreaming about new ways to connect with families,” said LeMaster. During the event on May 3, families also can discover summer learning opportunities from Centerville Schools and community groups, watch performances by Centerville High School’s Forte A Cappella and the CHS Jazz Combo, and enjoy food and games.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be held indoors at Cline Elementary, 99 Virginia Ave. Any changes to the location will be communicated through the district’s social media channels.

Centerville City Schools serve about 8,200 students in Centerville and Washington Township in southwest Ohio, offering a variety of educational programs to a diverse student population. The district operates 13 school buildings, as well as two preschools and a bus facility with more than 120 school buses that transport students daily to public and non-public schools.
