Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today announced Kent State University will receive $300,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to establish a STEM Women’s Support Network to promote community building and mentorship pertaining to service workloads. As part of the NSF ADVANCE Program, this will foster gender equity through a focus on the identification and elimination of organizational barriers that impede the full participation and advancement of diverse faculty in academic institutions.
“We must ensure that women are given equal access to the same opportunities in their schools and workplaces as their male counterparts. I commend Kent State University for taking the lead and leveling the playing field to bring everybody on board to lead the industries of the future,” said Congressman Ryan. “I will always work hard to secure federal investments needed by our Ohio schools to invest in our students and educators and ensure they’re given the resources needed to pursue these important innovative projects.”
The NSF supports research, innovation, and discovery that provides the foundation for economic growth in this country. By advancing the frontiers of science and engineering, our nation can develop the knowledge and cutting-edge technologies needed to address the challenges we face today and will face in the future.
