Today, Congressmen Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) issued the following statement after introducing a resolution "expressing support for the designation of 2022 as the 'Year of the Parents'":
"Parents deserve to have a say in their child's education. In the past year, there has been an increase in civic involvement and participation at local government forums, particularly school board meetings, from concerned parents and community members," said Congressman Wenstrup. "Parents have a right to decide what is best for their children and know what their kids are being taught in school, and I encourage them to make their voices heard. This designation would be a small step towards honoring parents’ central role in the upbringing and education of their children and our future leaders."
Background:
Over the past two years, school boards and teachers unions have enacted policies that have negatively impacted our children’s learning and development, such as continued masking, virtual classrooms, and promotion of destructive and divisive elements of Critical Race Theory (CRT). Congressman Wenstrup has long advocated for the reopening of schools and in October 2021, Congressman Wenstrup joined his colleagues in a letter Attorney General Garland expressing concern about the Attorney General's memorandum regarding parents behavior in school meetings.
