Baldwin Wallace University senior All-American distance runner Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain) and sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All‐District 7 Selection.
Laughner who garners her first accolade and carries a 3.72 grade point average with a double major in neuroscience and biology.
This season, Laughner is making her third appearance at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She qualifies for the 3000-meter steeplechase after her time of 10:38.11 at the Harrison Dillard Twilight on May 13, 2022. In 2021, Laughner placed eighth in this same event at the outdoor championships earning All-American honors. At the OAC Championships, Laughner was a back to back OAC champion in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:57.67, earning her fourth OAC outdoor honors also helping her 4x800 squad finish third in a time of 9:35.70, adding another OAC honor to her career. She placed fourth in the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:44.64 and eighth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:23.76.
Off the track, she is a two-time Academic All-OAC performer, United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic selection, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of Chi Alpha Sigma Honors Society.
Murphy who garners her first accolade and carries a 3.95 grade point average with a major in early childhood education.
This season, Murphy is making her second apperance at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She qualifies for the 1500-meter run after her time of 4:26.27 at the Harrison Dillard Twilight on May 13, 2022. Her last outdoor championship apperance, Murphy placed 11th in the 1500-meter run at the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. At the OAC Championships, Murphy won the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:34.25 and claims her second win in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:17.85, earning her third and fourth outdoor OAC honors. She also helped her 4x800 squad finish third in a time of 9:35.70, adding another OAC honor to her career.
Off the track, she is a Jacket Scholar and College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 selection.
Laughner and Murphy was the lone BW track and field athletes named to the CoSIDA Aademic All‐District 7 Selection and just two of four conference athletes selected.
The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be contested Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 26-28 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio to finish their 2022 outdoor track and field campaign.
