Republican-controlled Ohio Redistricting Commission Refuses Supreme Court Order To Draft Constitutional Maps A Sixth Time

Ohio

House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today responded to the Republican-controlled Ohio Redistricting Commission’s refusal to meet the 9 a.m. deadline set by the Ohio Supreme Court to pass constitutional legislative district maps.

“A handful of Republicans in power ignore the voices and votes of Ohioans to hold onto power at all costs — even if it means breaking their sacred oath to uphold the constitution and perform their duties as elected officials,” said Leader Russo. “We can have a government that works for the people — not against the people — if politicians in power are willing to come together and put aside their selfish political interests and corrupt pursuit of absolute power.”

Democratic Commission members, Co-Chair Sen. Vernon Sykes and House Minority Leader Allison Russo, sent multiple requests this week to the Republican-controlled Commission to meet prior to today’s deadline. The August primary will go forward using previously ruled unconstitutional, gerrymandered maps.
