Kaptur Announces $2M for Port Clinton Water, Sewer Project

Marcy

Today, Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced the City of Port Clinton would receive $2 million in federal funding for its water and sewer infrastructure project.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) has awarded $2 million to the City of Port Clinton for the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken in its history. Totaling over $13 million, the project will replace water and sanitary sewer lines located on or near the shores of Lake Erie – many of which are more than 80 years old.

“The health and wellbeing of Port Clinton and Lake Erie requires forward-thinking investments for the revitalization of critical infrastructure,” said Rep. Kaptur. “These new federal dollars will go a long way in supporting the city’s works to revamp aging water and sewer systems – saving ratepayers money and protecting the environment for decades to come.”

“We’ve asked the question, and the citizens of Port Clinton have overwhelming agreed to undertake the largest infrastructure project in the history of our community,” said Mayor Mike Snider. “The funds granted to us through this program will help lessen the burden on our community. Additionally, these dollars will provide assurance that we are able to protect our regions greatest natural resource – Lake Erie.”

As Chair of the House Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee which funds the Corps, Rep. Kaptur sent a letter to the Corps in April advocating on behalf of the City of Port Clinton’s request for funding for the project.
