The defense was on full display for both teams on Wednesday evening, as Notre Dame College and West Liberty University battled for 90 minutes in a scoreless contest. NDC now has three shutouts on the season, while West Liberty posts its second consecutive clean sheet.
The Falcons maintained possession for the majority of the game, taking 11 shots in the contest. Sophomore Taylor Dyson set a career-high with four shots on goal.
In the first half, NDC goalkeeper Pedro Alves had to make the first play of the game as he saved a shot in the sixth minute. The Notre Dame defense then tightened up and allowed just one more WLU shot on target for the rest of the contest.
West Liberty goalkeeper Noah Underwood was active throughout the game, stopping six shots in the first 45 minutes. Between the 11-minute mark and the 19-minute mark, Dyson had sent two shots toward goal and freshman Simao Coelho took one.
In the 34th minute, junior Antonio Bittencourt had a header go off the crossbar. The Falcons again attacked in the 41st minute as junior Leonardo Palmieri took a shot, which was followed by a corner kick. After the corner, senior Jordan Lewis had an opportunity, but Underwood was there.
The second half featured just one shot on goal for NDC, while West Liberty had one total shot in the final 45 minutes.
Alves had two saves in the contest, while Underwood finished with seven.
The Falcons will come back home to face Concord University, on Sept. 11. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
