Brown Announces Nearly $230,000 in AmeriCorps Funding to Fight Addiction in Cincinnati

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On May 8, 2023, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced AmeriCorps awarded a $229,355 grant to Mercy Health in Cincinnati to support 14 AmeriCorps members provide services related to the reduction and prevention of prescription drug and opioid abuse in urban and rural Mercy Health emergency departments in Ohio. In addition to the awards announced today, AmeriCorps members supported by these awards are eligible for up to $68,950 in Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards to help pay for college, vocational training, or to pay back student loans.

“AmeriCorps is about empowering citizens to strengthen their local communities,” said Brown. “These investments will allow Mercy Health take on volunteers who will help reduce and prevent prescription drug and opioid addiction in Cincinnati.”
