WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 1, 2023, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded three Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup (MARC) grants totaling $1,918,685 to three organizations in Northeast Ohio.

“By investing in and redeveloping these brownfield sites, we create new opportunities for growth for communities across Ohio,” said Brown. “Thanks in part to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this investment will support revitalization efforts critical to the safety and economic success of these communities.”

Funding from the EPA includes:

  • $918,685 to the Trumbull County Land Reutilization Corporation to clean up the over 28-acre Former Diversified Resources Site in Warren and support community engagement activities. This grant is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
  • $500,000 to the City of Cleveland to conduct 16 environmental site assessments, conduct community meetings, develop an outreach plan and materials, develop an inventory of brownfield sites, and prepare five remedial action plans and five reuse plans. The target area for this grant is the East
93rd Street Corridor and priority sites include the Urban Agricultural Zone Brightfield site and the Former National Bronze and Aluminum Foundry Company site.

  • $500,000 to the Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Corporation to clean up the Euclid-Woodlawn Redevelopment site in East Cleveland. This grant is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
The MARC grant program helps communities begin to address the economic, social, and environmental challenges caused by brownfields by stimulating economic opportunity and environmental revitalization in historically overburdened communities.
