WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) has called on the Biden Administration to choose Ohio’s Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in Dayton as the headquarters for the U.S. Space Command and to locate additional U.S. Space Force units in Ohio, in partnership with the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky. Ohio mayors and leading economic development organizations have joined Brown’s bipartisan push in urging the Administration to choose Ohio to house the U.S. Space Force Command Center.
See what they’re saying about Brown’s push to bring the Space Command to Ohio:
Ironton Tribune: EDITORIAL: Building the land of tomorrow
- “Altogether, 25 Ohioans have been among NASA’s astronauts, logging more than 22,000 hours in space on more than 80 flights, so it is safe to say the state has been integral to NASA through seven decades. Which is why it is fitting that, this week, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, along with many of the state’s U.S. representatives from both parties, called on President Joe Biden to select Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton as the headquarters for the U.S. Space Command and to locate additional Space Force units in Ohio, as part of a partnership NASA’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky.”
- “Brown has often spoken of the need to ‘bury the term “Rust Belt”’ and concentrating NASA’s facilities in the state would not only boost Ohio, but also many of the surrounding states of the region, which have been hit hard by manufacturing losses. We have seen that the state can be a leader in technology, evident by Intel’s decision to locate its microchip manufacturing plant in the state, a major coup for the state’s economy, which will ripple through its 88 counties.”
- “Moving Space Command to Ohio makes sense and will bring development. opportunity and the jobs of tomorrow to a region of the country that deserves a boost. We commend Brown and the representatives for making this call and we urge the state’s other U.S. senator, Republican JD Vance, as well as our region’s representative, Republican Brad Wenstrup, to consider joining this effort. The opportunity exists to bring Ohio to the forefront of the future, and let us hope that leaders take that path.”
- “We're glad to see U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown leading a bipartisan effort for Ohio to convince Space Force command that Ohio is the place to make a home base for the newest branch of the U.S. military. Our history is deep, and NASA's Neil A. Armstrong Test Facility is second to no other for testing space equipment and everything else that must survive the challenge of space travel. Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton and the Kohn Glenn Center in Cleveland make it a trio of Ohio assets that should convince the powers that be to take a good look at Ohio when thinking about the future of the U.S. Space Force.”
- “Out of Washington this week, there was a push to bring to Ohio the headquarters of the U.S. Space Command, should the Biden Administration reconsider the previous choice of Alabama. Senator Sherrod Brown is leading the bipartisan push, and he says between NASA Glenn here, NASA Armstrong in Sandusky, Wright-Patterson in Dayton, and the top research in Columbus, it just makes sense.”
- “Ohio lawmakers are making the pitch to President Joe Biden to move the U.S. Space Command headquarters, including Space Force, right here to the Buckeye State. Fox 8’s Maia Belay talked to Senator Sherrod Brown about why Ohio is the best state for Space Force to call home.”
- “The issue was addressed on the Senate floor by Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, a Democrat who is leading the effort along with Republican U.S. Representative David Joyce, who say the Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, along with NASA facilities in Cleveland and Sandusky, are uniquely positioned to take on the task.”
- “This story of modern aviation is rooted in Ohio. Senator Brown says the synergy here around national security and space is simply unmatched across the country.”

- “We spoke to Senator Brown, who believes that decision was both unfair and politically motivated, saying Ohio is much better equipped and has a long history as an aerospace state.”
- “Senator Sherrod Brown also speaking to us today about his push to bring the U.S. Space Command and Space Force to Ohio.”
- “He cites our state’s space history, from the Wright brothers to John Glenn to Neil Armstrong, the NASA facility in Cleveland, and of course Wright-Patterson Air Force Base right here in Dayton as great reasons to put the next headquarters here. Beavercreek Mayor Bob Stone has even joined Brown for the push.”
- “U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown has picked up the support of the Ohio Mayors Alliance, the Dayton Development Coalition and at least 10 other economic development organizations in lobbying the White House again to relocate the U.S. Space Command to Ohio. Brown took the floor of the Senate on Thursday to urge the Biden administration to establish Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as headquarters of the U.S. Space Command and move additional U.S. Space Force units to Ohio in partnership with the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky -- if the Pentagon decides to relocate the unit for a third time.”

- “Ohio’s rich history of aviation innovation makes it an ideally suited location for the Air Force’s new U.S. Space Command headquarters or Space Force units, a group of the state’s congressional delegates told Democratic President Joe Biden in a letter Wednesday. The bipartisan group — Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, Republican U.S. Rep. David Joyce and six others — joined a coalition of the state’s business and technology leaders and the state’s governor in making a pitch for the facility, as selection of a headquarters city has been embroiled in politics.”
- “The lawmakers urged locating the Space Command headquarters at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, already a hub for air and space intelligence and research, and partnering Space Force with NASA’s John H. Glenn Research Center facilities at Lewis Field in Cleveland and the Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky on Lake Erie.”
- “Brown said the broad effort is also joined by regional economic development organizations, universities and research organizations are also participating in the effort.”

In the letter, the lawmakers write that the numerous industry and university parties in the state — along with existing U.S. Air Force and NASA bases and facilities – make Ohio ideally suited to host U.S. Space Command and Space Force units – should the Department of Defense (DoD) choose to re-locate the Command HQ. Ten leading economic development organizations and chambers of commerce in Ohio also wrote to the Administration supporting Brown’s effort.”
- “Business groups around Ohio joined Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, to push President Joe Biden to make the state home to the U.S. Space Command headquarters. Brown, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and others continue to advance arguments Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton should be the permanent home for command headquarters. They also argue other space force units should be housed in Sandusky at the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility.”
- “Members of Ohio’s congressional delegation made a pitch for the U.S. Space Command (Spacecom) to be relocated to the state…Sen. - “They pointed to the state’s federal resources, including facilities like the National Space Intelligence Center and Air Force Research Laboratory, as key to assisting Spacecom if the headquarters move to Ohio.
