Columbus, OH – The Buckeye Institute has released a new report titled "A Healthcare World Reimagined: How Big Government Threatens Healthcare AI and What to Do About It," offering policy solutions and regulatory changes to leverage artificial intelligence for enhancing healthcare services.

In the report, The Buckeye Institute authors Rea S. Hederman Jr. and Logan Kolas highlight the potential of artificial intelligence in healthcare. They emphasize that AI can improve healthcare services for physicians, hospital systems, and patients by sorting, managing, and analyzing data efficiently, aiding in diagnoses and prognoses, and allowing medical professionals more time to interact with patients.

However, the authors express concerns about the regulatory environment, stating, "Unfortunately, federal and state policymakers have signaled their interest in pursuing heavy-handed regulatory rules that risk short-circuiting many of the improvements that AI has to offer."

To address these challenges, the report suggests several policy solutions. These include presuming innovation innocent in regulatory codes, restoring Congressional oversight, relying on "soft law" to guide AI policy, establishing an AI regulatory sandbox for safe development, and promoting interstate collaboration on privacy rules.

Rea S. Hederman Jr., vice president of policy at The Buckeye Institute and an expert in healthcare policy, and Logan Kolas, an economic policy analyst specializing in technology and data privacy policy, co-authored the report "A Healthcare World Reimagined."

These policy solutions aim to ensure that the potential benefits of AI in healthcare are realized by doctors, nurses, and patients while navigating the regulatory landscape to foster innovation and efficiency.
