Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted has urged voters to reject Issue 1, a proposal on the November 5 ballot that seeks to alter the organization of the state's political boundaries.

"Vote No on Issue 1," said Husted in response to a social media post by former President Donald Trump (R) about the proposition.

According to NBC4, Issue 1 is a ballot initiative aimed at amending the Ohio state constitution. It proposes dissolving the current Ohio State Redistricting Commission and establishing an unelected panel of 15 citizens responsible for drawing new boundaries for Ohio's congressional and legislative districts.

"Ohio democrats and left-wing special interest groups are spending more than $26 million to rig Elections through the Issue 1 redistricting scam," Trump said in a social media post. "Issue 1 would guarantee that unqualified redistricting commissioners are not accountable to Ohio voters, and would be impossible to remove them if they abuse their power - Issue 1 will cost Ohio taxpayers millions of dollars, and would force the State to pay redistricting commission lawyers unlimited legal expenses, with no accountability. Ohio voters need to stop this Democrat takeover of legislative redistricting. Vote no on Issue 1. Stop the Steal!"

If approved, Issue 1 would establish a new redistricting commission composed of five Republicans, five Democrats, and five independents or members of other political parties, as reported by WLWT.

Husted was elected as Lt. Gov. of Ohio in the 2019 General Election. His political career includes serving as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008, where he held the position of House Speaker from 2005 to 2008. He also served as Ohio Secretary of State from his election in 2010 until assuming his current role.

Before entering politics, Husted worked as Vice President of Economic Development at the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and held various positions at the University of Dayton. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in communications from the University of Dayton and resides in Columbus, Ohio, with his family.
