FOIA Request Sent to Huron County Regarding Access to Public Records on October 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Huron County, Ohio on October 7, 2024. The request was made by the Buckeye Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In the pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at the Buckeye Reporter requested access to specific records under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq. Specifically, we sought a list of FOIA logs that were sent to Huron County from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024.

The requested records included the following fields: Requester Name, Requester Organization, Request Content, Request Date, Request Complete Date and FOIA Status. We asked for these records preferably in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination.

As a media organization committed to serving the public interest through responsible journalism, we believe it is our duty to keep the public informed about their government's activities. Access to such records allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities more effectively.

In line with this mission and considering our role in disseminating information to the public, we also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We remain committed to providing transparency and holding public institutions accountable through our reporting at Buckeye Reporter.
