FOIA Request Sent to Franklin County Regarding Access to Public Records on October 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Franklin County on October 7, 2024. The request, issued by the Buckeye Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought access to public records under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq.

The requested records specifically include a list of FOIA logs that were sent to Franklin County from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024. The fields requested in these logs include the requester's name and organization, content of the request, date of the request and its completion date, as well as the status of the FOIA.

As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at Buckeye Reporter believe that access to such records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes gathering and reporting news to the public in an accurate and timely manner.

Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a response from Franklin County regarding this request.
