FOIA Request to Lorain County Regarding Access to Public Records on October 7, 2024.

In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at Buckeye Reporter have sent a request to Lorain County under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq., for access to specific public records.

The request, dated October 7, 2024, seeks electronic copies of FOIA logs sent to the county from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024. The requested logs should contain fields such as the requester's name and organization, content of the request, date of the request and its completion date as well as the status of the FOIA.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to these records is crucial for us. It allows us to hold public institutions accountable and provide much-needed transparency to our readership.

In line with our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under this law. We await Lorain County's response to our request and remain committed to delivering fact-based reporting on local government affairs.
