Law enforcement task forces under the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission (OOCIC) have reported significant seizures of illegal drugs, firearms, and currency in 2024. The operations led to the confiscation of more than $92 million worth of narcotics, 560 firearms, and $4.7 million in cash.

Ohio Attorney General Yost commented on the achievements: “The number of illegal drugs and weapons taken off our streets this year is impressive thanks to our drug task forces, but the true measure of their success is the countless lives spared from overdoses and addiction.” He expressed gratitude towards local sheriffs, police chiefs, and federal partners for their collaborative efforts against drug trafficking.

Since 2019, OOCIC task forces have seized over 288,000 prescription pills, 1,154 pounds of fentanyl, 1,994 pounds of cocaine, and 2,334 firearms. These task forces are formed through partnerships among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies across Ohio.

Angie M. Salazar from HSI Detroit emphasized the importance of cooperation: “These significant accomplishments demonstrate that when law enforcement agencies work together at all levels, we deliver public safety results that protect the communities we serve.”

Governor Mike DeWine highlighted a reduction in overdose deaths over two consecutive years as a result of these efforts: “My administration is proud to support these major drug interdiction task forces as part of our comprehensive plan to save lives."

In August 2024 alone, a record seizure was made by stopping a commercial vehicle carrying large quantities of methamphetamine along with other drugs in Madison County. This operation was part of ongoing efforts by various regional task forces to curb drug trafficking activities throughout Ohio.
