Lt. Governor Jon Husted recently announced a new initiative to train more than 100 drivers through Ohio’s Commercial Driver’s License Training Program. Husted emphasized that the program aims to create more opportunities for Ohioans to earn their CDL and support the movement of Ohio-made products nationwide.
“More than 100 drivers will receive CDL training through the Commercial Driver’s License Training Program,” Husted wrote in a Jan 2 social media post on X. “We're creating more opportunities for Ohioans to earn their CDL so they can move Ohio-made products across the country!”
According to a press release, the Ohio Department of Development has introduced a new program to support Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders through advanced training and career development opportunities. The initiative aims to address the increasing demand for skilled CDL drivers and strengthen the state's transportation sector.
Lydia Mihalik, Director of the Ohio Department of Development, emphasized that the program seeks to enhance individual career prospects while ensuring the resilience of Ohio's supply chain. The program offers comprehensive training modules focusing on the latest safety protocols, vehicle maintenance techniques, and regulatory compliance standards. Participants will also benefit from career placement services that connect them with employers seeking qualified drivers. To reduce financial barriers, the initiative provides grants and scholarships to help cover training costs.
This effort is part of Ohio's response to a nationwide shortage of CDL drivers, which has disrupted industries dependent on transportation and logistics. By proactively addressing this issue, the state aims to position itself as a leader in workforce development and economic stability.
According to his official bio page, Jon Husted was adopted and raised in Northwest Ohio's Williams County. He grew up with a strong foundation in faith, family, and hard work. As House Speaker, he championed Ohio’s most conservative budget in decades with a historic income tax cut. Elected Lt.
