Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost visited East Palestine on the second anniversary of the Norfolk Southern train derailment to emphasize the state's commitment to accountability for those affected by the incident.

"The scars of this tragedy remain," Yost stated. "The people here aren’t asking for miracles. All they want is justice, and I intend to see that they get it."

During his visit, Yost held a private meeting with East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway to discuss updates on the federal lawsuit he filed against Norfolk Southern. He emphasized that his client is "the state of Ohio and all Ohioans, including those comprising the East Palestine community," and reiterated his office's dedication to seeking answers.

The lawsuit aims to prevent future incidents similar to the derailment in Columbiana County on February 3, 2023, which released hazardous chemicals into the environment and caused mass evacuations. The case remains in its discovery phase as Ohio continues demanding transparency about the derailment's causes and long-term effects.

Yost made it clear that Ohio would not settle for any resolution that does not fully address the extent of damage caused by the disaster. He praised East Palestine residents' resilience and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting them throughout the legal proceedings.

"This fight isn’t over," Yost declared.
