The latest edition of the Traveler’s Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States has been released, providing gun owners with up-to-date information on firearm regulations across the United States. The guide is especially relevant for Ohio residents who need to be aware of varying state laws when traveling with firearms.
Indiana, for example, allows permitless carry since 2022, similar to Ohio. In Indiana, individuals aged 18 and older who are not barred from owning or carrying a handgun can legally do so. However, Illinois does not recognize Ohio’s concealed handgun licenses and enforces a 15-round magazine limit for handguns as of January 10, 2023. Violations incur a $1,000 fine.
Ohio maintains reciprocity agreements with several states, but it remains crucial for travelers to verify each state's specific laws regarding concealed carry permits and regulations on firearm transportation and magazine capacity.
Since its first publication in 1996, the Traveler’s Guide has been updated regularly and now includes over 100 changes for its 2025 edition. With more than two million copies sold, it is considered a reliable source on gun laws. Reviewed by the National Rifle Association since 1997 and authored by a lawyer, the guide covers all firearms across every state and includes features such as a state-by-state traveler checklist and essential legal definitions.
The guide also provides travel tips for Canada and Mexico, advice for hunters transporting long guns across state lines, and rankings of states based on firearm freedom.
Priced at $16.95, the 2025 edition is available at buckeyefirearms.org/travelers-guide-firearm-laws-fifty-states-2025.
