The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has closed the State Route 646 bridge over Salem Creek, located just west of Annapolis, following an inspection. The closure is a precautionary measure. A detour has been set up for motorists traveling from west to east: South on SR 9 in Harrison County to SR 151, then east on SR 151 to US 22, and finally east on US 22 to SR 152 north, leading back to SR 646.

The bridge was originally constructed in 1928 and underwent significant reconstruction in 1990. It is one of only two bridges in ODOT District 11 that features timber beams. Approximately 400 vehicles use this route daily, with trucks making up about 10% of the traffic.

The duration of the closure remains uncertain as ODOT officials assess the situation and plan the next steps for the bridge. Motorists are advised not to move or ignore road-closed signs and barricades as they are placed for safety reasons.
