U.S. Attorney David Toepfer issues statement on officer Phillip Wagner's death

U.S. Attorney David M. Toepfer issued a statement on the death of Lorain Police Officer Phillip Wagner. He expressed condolences to Officer Wagner's family, friends, and colleagues at the Lorain Police Department.

"With sorrowful hearts, we offer our sincerest condolences to the family of Officer Phillip Wagner, his friends, and his fellow officers with the Lorain Police Department," said Toepfer. "Officer Wagner’s tragic loss is a painful reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face in service to keep our communities safe."

Toepfer highlighted the sacrifice made by Officer Wagner, noting his dedication to community safety. "We have lost a protector of our community who dedicated his career to ensuring that others can live in safety," he stated.

The U.S. Attorney also asked for thoughts and prayers for Officers Peter Gale and Brent Payne as they recover from both physical injuries and the emotional impact of losing their colleague.

"We also ask everyone to continue to keep Officers Peter Gale and Brent Payne in their thoughts and prayers as they recover not only physically from this brutal attack but also from the immense pain of losing their friend and colleague," Toepfer added.
