The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio is set to participate in National Night Out events alongside law enforcement agencies and community members in Cleveland and other regional locations.
National Night Out is a yearly campaign that encourages collaboration between police officers and the public to improve neighborhood safety. The event, which began in 1984 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance under the U.S. Department of Justice, is now managed by the National Association of Town Watch, a nonprofit group operating nationwide. According to organizers, millions join National Night Out activities each year across thousands of communities on the first Tuesday in August.
Local law enforcement and trained volunteers coordinate these events, which include block parties, cookouts, festivals, parades, safety demonstrations, seminars, youth activities, and visits from emergency personnel. Organizers say these gatherings help foster positive relationships between police and residents.
