FOIA Request to Youngstown State University regarding recent course syllabi on August 6, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to Youngstown State University by Buckeye Reporter, a media organization dedicated to covering local governmental affairs. The request, sent on August 6, 2025, seeks access to a comprehensive list of course syllabi for all undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the Spring 2025 academic semester. This includes syllabi from all departments, schools, and colleges at the university, regardless of whether the courses were conducted in-person, online, or in hybrid formats.

The requested information is expected to include specific metadata such as the course title and number, instructor name, department or academic unit, and the course delivery format. The requester has emphasized the importance of this information for media professionals who aim to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency.

In addition to requesting these records under the Ohio Open Records Law (§149.43 et seq.), Buckeye Reporter has asked for a fee waiver due to their role in disseminating news to the public. The requester is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that supports media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
